Entry and the D visa for a company director
Whether you need a visa depends on your passport. Here are the official rules, and how the company fits in.
Do you need a visa?
Citizens of the European Union do not need a visa. More than a hundred countries are on the official visa-free list: their citizens can enter and stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period with a valid travel document. The list is published by the Government of Montenegro. If your country is on it, you can enter and start the process; if it is not, you need a visa before you travel.

Short-stay (C) and long-stay (D) visas
| Visa | For | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| C (short stay) | Transit or stays up to 90 days in 180 days | Travel document valid at least 3 months beyond the visa; photo; proof of purpose and accommodation; health insurance; financial proof. |
| D (long stay) | Stays of more than 90 days: business or work purposes, diplomatic service, digital nomads | Applied for at a diplomatic or consular mission. |
The official decision time is ten days from submission; it can extend to 30 days for further consideration or 60 days when additional documents are required.
How a registered company helps
If you need a D visa to come as a company director, then in our practice a registered Montenegrin company is the basis for explaining the purpose of your stay: it shows that you are the director of a real company. That is why many clients register the company first. We help with the company documents; the visa decision belongs to the consulate. We do not promise approval and we do not quote approval rates.
Plan the family’s arrival
In our experience, for family members who enter visa-free, the 90-day period starts running as soon as they enter, and the family’s own permits are filed after the director’s permit is obtained. Where it is possible, plan the arrival so the permitted stay does not run out while the permit is in process.
